FLICT Forum
FLICT wishes to initiate a series of regular forums to create a space for learning and networking. The forums are scheduled to take place every 4-6 weeks at the FLICT office in Colombo and will include guest lectures, film evenings, book discussions and similar cultural events.
1. Forum : “Chronicles as a Legitimating Charter: Contextualising the Mahavamsa” 13th February 2009
We would like to express out gratitude to Dr. Sudharasahn Senevirathne, Director General of the Central Cultural Fund, who held a very interesting 30 minutes lecture followed by a question and answer session and lively discussion.

2. Forum : “Children affected by War” 30th April 2009

Consultant/Advisor to Commissioner General of Rehabilitation, Sec. Min. of Justice, Min. of Child Development and Women’s Empowerment & National Child Protection Authority
The presentation incited an active discussion on a very current topic, where serious thinking was put in to challenges of working with such a delicate group. We are grateful to our speaker, who shared with us a lot of first hand information on the topic.

3. Film Forum : “Lemon Tree by Eran Riklis” 28th May 2009
Winner of Audience Award in Berlinale Film Festival 2008 the story is a powerful portrayal of what power and divisions and ‘borders’ do to people.

4. Open Forum: Cultural Productions, Policies and Politics, 26th August, 2009, 4pm – 6.30pm
On 26th August 2009, FLICT hosted the forum on the above mentioned theme with the following as guest speakers:

5. Follow-up Forum on Cultural Productions, Policies and Politics
26th Monday, October 2009, 4pm @ FLICT
On 26th August 2009, FLICT hosted the forum on Culture with over 40 participants attending. Many well-known figures of the art and culture scene gathered and discussed the issues that have been discussed for long period of time without no proper action. A committee was formed to follow up and a report prepared, shared. The follow up forum brought together stakeholders and in order to discuss further steps and proposals.

6. Film Discussion on Akasa Kusum
27th Tuesday October 2009, 4pm @ FLICT
A group of students from National School of Social Work, University of Colombo and Kelaniya University had a discussion forum at FLICT on Prasanna Vithanage’s film Akasa Kususm. The discussion was moderated by Dr Subangi Herath, Dpt of Sociology Colombo University and a brief input was made by Ms Anoma Rajakaruna.
