Decision Making
Government institutions, schools and other social institutions take decisions which have a range of impacts on our lives. When taking such decisions, it is vital that the actual needs of the society are addressed and the voice of the society is heard. To ensure this, FLICT supports the capacity building of such local government and social institutions so that they establish a system for inclusive citizens’ participation in decision making processes. This action helps to improve the mechanisms of local government authorities to address the diverse needs of citizens in a participatory manner. As such FLICT began the project with active contribution of local government institutions in selected piloting district of Ampara, Badulla, Puttlam and Galle. The improved communication between local authorities and communities ensures result in greater sensitivity towards actual problems and add value to their work through increased citizen participation in decision making processes.
FLICTs’ support includes:
Providing FLICTs’ subject specific technical advice on citizen participation in decision making process at national, local, levels in collaboration with the State Ministry. Supporting research, surveys and interviews related to inclusive citizens’ participation at local government level.
Facilitating Capacity development of Local Authorities on inclusive citizen’s participation. Strengthening of existing Standing Committees of
Local Authorities. Development of a joint action plan to promote social integration activities by providing local subsidies for such activities.
